Young Scientists Tanzania(YST) is happy to inform students, teachers and the general public that the long awaited YST 2015 exhibition will run for three days at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam from 5th – 7th August 2015. This exhibition will be a showcase and culmination of year-long innovative and scientific investigations done by secondary school students. Once again, the main sponsors, Irish Aid and BG Tanzania, are the driving force behind this success.
It is a great achievement that over the period of four years YST has covered every region.  YST 2015 exhibition will involve 240 students and 120 teachers from all 30 regions of Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. Over three days of the exhibition, students will showcase projects in various areas of science such as chemical, physical and mathematical sciences; biological and ecological sciences; social and behavioural sciences; and technology. Although the projects are covering wide areas of science, most projects are addressing issues such as health, agriculture and food security, communications and transportation safety, energy and environment, education, social relations and social problems.
We still have major problems in improving the level of sciences in secondary schools leading to low subscription and unconvincing pass rates. While pass rates are gradually improving, the major problem remain to be the lack of practicals and application of sciencies in improving people’s life...sciences can never be done by using chalk and blackboard. YST 2015 exhibition tries to demonstrate that science is fun, practical and problem solving, and can be done both inside and outside the classroom. Participants of YST 2015 exhibition will show through their projects that there is a way out of poverty in Tanzania.
As a way of acknowledging the great work done by the young and innovative minds, prizes will be awarded to students with bests projects. About 60 students will win prizes in form of cash, medals, trophies, lab equipment and library refurbishment. University scholarships will be awarded to six students to help them to pursue scientific and technological studies in universities and ultimately take up scientific carriers. Overall winners of YST 2015 exhibition will also win  all expenses paid trip to Ireland and USA in 2016 to represent Tanzania in international scientific and technological competitions for young scientists.
YST 2015 exhibition is a showcase of scientific talents of secondary school students. It is also a testimony of improvement of skills of teachers of who are the mentors of the students. This is the result of trainings provided to science teachers by YST over the periods of four years. About 2,000 students from secondary schools in Dar es Salaam have been invited to visit the exhibition and experience the ingenuity of their fellow young people. All people are invited to visit the exhibition on the 6th and 7th August 2015.
