Tourist who come to visit the Kilimanjaro mountain has decreased from an average of 50,000 to 45,000 tourists.



IT has been released that during the year 2015/16 the number of tourist who come to visit  the Kilimanjaro mountain has decreased from an average of  50,000 to 45,000 tourists.
To ensure that the number of tourists increases, the government have already started taking some measures including advertising the sector in different international media stations including United States of America (USA), United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
It is according to the Minister of Natural resources and Tourism, Jumanne Maghembe, who made a statement recently in Moshi, Kilimanjaro during a meeting which drew different tourism sector stakeholders.
However, for the private tourists companies which in one way or another take causes for the government to get income loss, by taking  the tourists to climb the mountain in illegal ways (njia za panya) , the government have warned them to stop immediately if not legal measures will be taken against them.
He said to there are some issues which have led for the sector specifically Mount Kilimanjaro to decrease its income due to low tourists rate including  poor service provided by some private tourist companies.
“The government have laid out laws and regulations in the sector including that all tourism services in all game reserves and other attractions should be done by Local Tanzanians but at an international standard in order to increase the number of tourists  but most of them operates against the law, “he said.

He also called upon the Conservator of  Kilimanjaro Mountain to improve its security system by allocating more security officers in all entrance gates to the mountain so as to combat any kind of illegal entrance.
Commenting on the issue, the Director of  TANAPA, Dr. Allan Kijazi, said he there is a need for all tourism sector  to meet in order to discuss and come up with better solutions to all challenges.
On his part, the Kilimanjaro regional Commissioner, Amos Makalla said proper measures will be taken to combat the challenges including the  instructions delivered.
